3 Phases of Faith-Based Holistic Trauma Healing

Welcome beautiful soul! I’m so sorry for the pain and trauma you’ve experienced in your life that brought you here, but so happy you’re taking the steps to get healed. Darkness, trials, and trauma are parts of life we can’t escape, but YOU are in control of how you navigate them, and more importantly, who you become on the other side of them.

What is Faith-Based Holistic Trauma Healing?

Before diving into the three phases, let’s define faith-based holistic trauma healing.  Holistic refers to the belief that the parts of something are interconnected and can only be explained by referencing the whole. When applied to trauma healing, holistic refers to addressing how trauma affects the whole person—body, soul, and spirit.

A faith-based approach to holistic trauma healing incorporates spirituality centered around belief in the God of the Bible—the supernatural all-powerful, all-knowing Creator of all things. It recognizes His divine design of human beings as body, soul, and spirit, and incorporates trauma healing practices that address and integrate each of those parts.

3-Part Being

The body, of course, is the physical substance of the human, composed of living cells and extracellular materials organized into tissues, organs, and systems. The body connects to the soul through the five senses (sight, sound, smell, taste, and touch), which act as “gates”, allowing things from the physical world to pass through to our mental and emotional world.

The soul is a person’s mind, will, and emotions. It’s the essence of who you are, your thoughts, feelings, and personality. Your soul is shaped by experiences and interactions with the physical world, and by the things that enter through your body's “gates”. The condition of the soul greatly influences the strength of the spirit, mainly through the damage that sin (both your own and the sin of others done to you) causes to the mind and emotions which weaken the will.

The spirit is a person’s God-given life force. It’s the breath of life God breathed into Adam (Genesis 2:7), and into all living human beings. Your spirit through your own free will, allows you knowledge of and intimacy with God. The spirit is the part of you that’s dead in sin and born again through faith in Jesus. Your spirit is strengthened when you seek to know God through His Word and desire connection with Him through prayer and meditation.

What is Trauma?

Now that we understand what a faith-based holistic trauma healing approach is, let’s take a quick look at trauma itself.

Trauma is complex. It’s both an emotional response to a stressful or dangerous experience that causes physical and psychological stress, and all the unprocessed thoughts, emotions, meanings, body sensations, and memories stored in the body and soul because of it.

Unprocessed trauma, along with your perception of the event, causes your subconscious brain to form core wounds that represent the meanings you’ve attached to the trauma—these become the subconscious beliefs you view the world and yourself through. These include beliefs like I am not loved, I am not safe, I am alone, I am not worthy.

3 Phases of Faith-Based Holistic Trauma Healing

Phase 01: Healing Foundation

Building a firm foundation is critical when beginning your trauma-healing journey which is why a faith-based approach emphasizes Jesus. The first healing phase lays your foundation of safety through trauma and nervous system education while focusing on the heart of Jesus, His supernatural healing power, and your identity in Him.

Creating safety within your life, and self, is a fundamental element to healing necessary for processing painful emotions further along in your journey, and there is no safer place than the arms of Jesus. The focus here is learning and implementing nervous system regulation, stored trauma release, and brain rewiring through gentle body, soul, and spirit practices while growing in knowledge and faith in Jesus.

Healing Foundation Practices Include:
Bible Study (Identity, Jesus’s Power & Promises), Prayer & Meditation, Praise & Worship Music, Trauma & Nervous System Education, Healthier Mindset & Lifestyle Shifts, Somatic Stretches, Self-Attunement, Journaling, Visualizations, Core Wound Reprogramming with Scripture

Phase 02: Transformation Process

This transformational phase builds upon the foundation of phase one by learning and implementing the integral elements needed for healing your deepest soul wounds and becoming the woman you were created to be. This phase goes further into regulation, releasing, and rewiring while deepening your trust in Jesus and His heart to heal through your faith.

From the place of safety built in phase one, you can begin processing painful emotions and memories while experiencing the freedom of forgiveness. In this phase, you also learn about and attune to your wounded inner child while focusing on understanding and loving yourself through awareness, embodiment, and care practices.

Transformation Practices Include:
Bible Study (Faith, Forgiveness), Prayer & Meditation, Praise & Worship Music, Healthier Mindset & Lifestyle Habits, Inner Child Work, Incremental Exposure Training, Grief Processing, Memory Reprocessing, Emotional Mastery, Boundary Work, Somatic Exercises for Nervous System Regulation, Visualizations

Phase 03: Destiny Discovery

The third phase of faith-based holistic trauma healing and transformation is all about embodying the woman you were created to be and discovering your divine destiny by implementing and applying the faith and knowledge learned in phases one and two.

In this phase, you’ll integrate your new mindsets into all aspects of your life, discover your divine destiny by looking through your new spiritual eyes, and cultivate custom daily rhythms to maintain your healed, and whole body, soul, and spirit.

Destiny Practices Include:
Bible Study (Purpose, Calling), Prayer & Meditation, Praise & Worship Music, Healthier Mindset & Lifestyle Routines, Mindfulness, Building New & Deeper Connections, Setting & Implementing Future Goals

Focused, daily, consistent body, soul, and spirit practices form new neuropathways in your brain which over time leads to long-term healing.
